Hot water extraction typically involves several steps. The first step is done each time you vacuum your carpet - to remove surface debris and some of the dust that settles into carpet fibers. The second step, if required, is to pre-treat the carpet with a surfactant or de-greaser (depending on your environment) to loosen dirt and oils that are embedded in the carpet. Areas that have been heavily soiled (traffic lanes, areas with spills, etc.) may require additional pre-treatment with a spotting solution. Spotting solutions are generally just a different surfactant or degreaser. The third step is to use a carpet cleaning tool, called a wand, that sprays either a very dilute soap solution or a solution with a rinse agent on the carpet. The fourth step is to extract the cleaning solution and the oils and dirt it has removed from the carpet fibers. For high traffic areas, we often add a Turbo Scrub step using a modified form of bonnet cleaning to loosen ground in dirt and grease. |

Hot water extraction — which is often called “steam” cleaning — is recognized by carpet manufacturers as the best cleaning method, and may be required to retain your carpet warranty. Hot water extraction is the most common, most effective, and safest method of cleaning carpet. Regardless of whether your carpet is made of nylon, polyester, wool, olefin, or some blend of these fibers, it can best be cleaned using this method. |
